It may sound simple to just listen, but it isn’t. So many variables affect how a conversation goes. We find ourselves planning our response before someone has finished speaking, and then realize we haven’t heard a word the person said. Or we react to someone’s words in ways that surprise even us, and the person instantly shuts down as a result. Despite our best intentions, the other person may not feel heard.
